Holiday Season Tips For Traveling with Pets

traveling with petsThe holiday season is almost upon us, and, just like the retail stores preparing for Black Friday, it’s time for you to prepare for your holiday road trips. Whether you are going over the river and through the woods to grandma’s house or merely down the street, you don’t want to leave your beloved pets behind. To make sure your road trip this year is comfortable for both you and Fido, follow these tips on traveling with pets and stay safe this holiday season!

Take your pet on practice runs. Before you leave for your six-hour trip to your Auntie Sue’s, make sure your dog or cat is used to being in the car. Short practice runs completed before leaving for your holiday vacation are a great way to ensure that your pet is comfortable with being in the car for long periods of time.

Use a crash-tested pet carrier. A dog or cat roaming free in your car while you are driving is just an accident waiting to happen. To keep both you and your pet safe on your road trip, make sure you put Garfield and Odie into crash-tested pet carriers or seat restraints. This will eliminate the distraction of a loose animal, while also ensuring your pets’ safety if an accident were to occur.

Stop for frequent bathroom breaks. Just like humans, pets can’t handle long car rides without frequent breaks. Stop frequently for bathroom breaks and to allow your animal to stretch its legs before continuing on your journey. Every two to three hours should be perfect.

Don’t leave your pet by itself in your car. Whether it’s freezing cold or scorching hot, you should never leave an animal in your car by itself. There are a multitude of things that can go wrong, concluding in your pet’s injury or death. Be sure to find pet-friendly accommodations and restaurants along your route so your pet can stay with you when you stop overnight.

Follow our tips regarding traveling with pets, and you are guaranteed a great holiday season. Interbrand Recognizes Nissan in Best Global Brands Study

Best Global Brands
Nissan Jumped 9 Spots from last year in Interbrand’s Best Global Brands Study

Interbrand has once again named Nissan among the world’s most valuable brands in its latest Best Global Brands Study, which features the automaker in 56th, up from 65th last year.

Back in June, Nissan was also named one of the world’s greenest brands in Interbrand’s Best Global Green Brands report. Interbrand lauded Nissan’s financial performance and product portfolio in the most recent study and recognized its leadership position in electric vehicles in both studies.

To determine the Best Global Brands, the firm looks at the ongoing investments and management of the brand as a business asset, taking into account financial performance, the strength of the brand, and the influence and role of the brand in the purchase decision of customers.

At Blackburn Nissan, we can testify that customers are often swayed by the Nissan badge in front of the car!

“Brand power is a key indicator of the health of the Nissan business and a major driver of the company’s growth,” said Roel de Vries, Nissan Corporate Vice President and global head of Marketing and Brand Strategy. “We are pleased to see a 23 percent increase in brand value from last year—nearly doubling Nissan’s brand value since its inaugural appearance on the list in 2011—and recognition as a ‘top’ riser in the study.”

Nissan’s Fuel Efficiency Improves Dramatically

Nissan's Fuel Efficiency

We at Blackburn Nissan are proud to tell you that Nissan has dramatically improved its overall fuel efficiency for 2013.  In fact, it has improved at a greater degree than any other US automaker.  And, while it may not be on top, it’s getting very, very close.  If it continues its healthy trend, that may happen soon.

The overall efficiency numbers are calculated by taking an average of a company’s entire product line.  In 2012, Nissan’s average was 24.1 miles per gallon.  After calculations had been completed and the smoke (or rather, emissions) had cleared, Nissan’s fuel efficiency numbers were 26.2 in 2013.  That’s a whopping 2.1 increase!

Fuel efficiency can be improved a number of ways.  Between 2012 and 2013, Nissan put its Altima line on a diet, cutting its weight by 80 lbs.  That’s one way to help.  Nashville Public Radio reported Pierre Loing, vice president of product planning at Nissan, as saying, “Achieving good fuel economy is not a miracle.  You need to work on weight reduction, aerodynamics, frictions and powertrain.”

Nissan Commissions Reverse Graffiti Mural in London Powered by LEAF

Not many people can make a statement while cleaning walls, but that’s exactly what reverse graffiti founder and artist Moose did when Nissan commissioned him to create a mural in London using power from the Nissan LEAF.

Reverse graffiti is the art of using a jet washer to clean layers of dirt and grime from walls, creating an artistic design. Moose’s mural of the London skyline on a subway wall in Waterloo, London is a clear picture of the damage caused by vehicle exhaust and the power of the zero emissions Nissan LEAF.

“This piece of art is a striking call to action that air quality is one of the biggest issues facing the citizens and visitors of Europe’s largest cities today,” said Jean-Pierre Diernaz, Nissan Europe’s EV director. “It is a reminder that electric vehicles don’t have an exhaust to emit the kind of air pollution which has stained the wall Moose has created his piece on. Working with Moose to highlight the effect of air quality on our cities through a piece of art powered by the Nissan LEAF is an exciting and powerful way of reminding people about the benefits of zero emission vehicles.”

We at Blackburn Nissan are incredibly impressed with the reverse graffiti mural. We’re even more impressed with the positive impact even a single LEAF can have.
