New Nissan Sentra SR Features Make It the Best for the Price

Nissan SentraThe upcoming 2017 Nissan Sentra SR aims to be the best compact car on the road, balancing top-notch performance with an affordable price-tag. And while it might be a while before you can take one out on a test drive, the reviews are already in: the new Nissan Sentra SR is a hit.

The new Nissan Sentra SR’s most impressive feature is its turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine – previously seen in the Nissan Juke – which allows the model to get up to 188 horsepower. Stats-wise, this puts the new Sentra SR among the most powerful vehicles on the road of its kind.

Cars.com is calling the new model one of the most “affordable performance compacts you can buy,” after praising the vehicle’s ability to handle a nine-turn racetrack, as well as local streets.

In fact, the 2017 Nissan Sentra SR has a price tag of just about $23,000, making it an option that most drivers can financially swallow. We predict that it will be one of Nissan’s most popular models of the year.

Nissan Earns a Whole Bunch of IIHS Top Safety Ratings

Four Nissan models have received IIHS Top Safety ratings. Is this a big deal? Yes! Why? Because the IIHS (or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) is one of the strictest and prestigious safety associations in America, and getting the nod from them is like an automotive medal of honor. And Nissan racked up a whopping four.

The 2016 Nissan Rogue and the 2016 Nissan Sentra were both named IIHS Top Safety Picks, meaning that they ranked “Good” or higher in all five of the IIHS’s crashworthiness test categories.

The 2016 Nissan Maxima and the 2016 Nissan Murano each earned the highest of the IIHS Top Safety ratings: the Top Safety Pick+. To earn that coveted little plus-sign, a vehicle must not only earn those five “Good” ratings, but also score and “Advanced” or “Superior” in front crash prevention systems.

What does this mean for Nissan drivers across America? Just that they can feel really good–and really safe–every time they get behind the wheel.

The 2015 Sentra interior design features optional leather, heated seats, a 5.0-inch display, 6-speaker audio system, and SiriusXM radio among other things.

The new Sentra comes in six different grades, ranging from the S 6MT to the SL Xtronic. The S 6MT is the standard model for practical-oriented buyers, and the SL Xtronic features the latest technology and incredible luxury. All models come with a USB port, Bluetooth®, illuminated steering wheel controls, Smart Auto headlights, and other new features.

Nissan’s New Design Studio Opens in Brazil

Nissan opened a new satellite design studio in Rio de Janiero on August 13th. The studio, called “Nissan Design America Rio” (NDA-R), is located near the corporate headquarters of Brazil, and hopes to incorporate local flavor into the design and research of future Nissan vehicles.

“Brazil has been one of Nissan’s key markets for years and can offer new inspiration for the design of our products for Brazil as well as globally. Soon, you may see some results of the work done by this team in collaboration with other design centers around the world,” said Taro Ueda, Vice President of Nissan Design America. “Rio has a wonderful combination of vibrancy and diversity that represents the Brazilian culture and people, with each region being unique in its own way. This is an ideal location to establish a design studio.”

Ueda was present at the opening of NDA-R, and also took time to meet with local design students and professionals. Autoevolution.com points out that Ueda spoke at the Rio’s Instituto Europeo di Design (IED) and hosted a design workshop at Nissan Brazil’s headquarters.

Nissan is hoping that by incorporating local design elements, they will more broadly appeal to South American markets, where they already sell the Versa and March hatchbacks, the Sentra and Altima sedans, and a market-specific minivan called the Livina.

“Shift” Into Relax Gear with Nissan’s Improved CVTs

Nissan's Improved CVTs
Nissan Altima

Nissan vehicles like the Altima, Rogue, and Sentra all feature a special kind of transmission, a “continuously variable transmission” or “CVT.” This kind of transmission doesn’t feel as smooth as an automatic transmission, which has caused some Nissan owners to fret that their transmissions are in fact broken. Of course, Nissan could just issue a statement explaining how CVTs work, but that’s just not how this great company works.

Nissan has gone a step further—creating a tweaked version of their CVT that makes it feel much more like an automatic transmission. In other words, Nissan has added a new technology, called D-Step Shift Logic, just to put their customer’s minds at ease. That’s the kind of excellence and service you already expect from Nissan if you’re a returning customer—if not, simply swing by Blackburn Nissan today to check out our excellent lineup, CVT-capable or otherwise.

Here’s how the D-Step Shift Logic works, according to Driving.ca: “once the car reaches 4,000 rpm, the software tweak creates a subtle drop in driving force and a slight jump ahead, giving the sense of a changing gear.” Nissan’s improved CVTs are just one tiny example of the automaker’s excellence–Nissan pays this kind of attention to detail to every aspect of their vehicles, so you’ll feel safe and sound in any of the excellent cars and trucks in our inventory.
